At Bloom Orthodontics in Long Beach, we’ve been helping families get the smile they always wished they had for themselves or their loved ones for three generations.
Founded in 1966, our practice was built on the idea that service and value are every bit as important as dental tools and modern orthodontic techniques. We greet every person with a smile and encourage open communication between the doctor and families.
Now, as the third generation of USC-trained orthodontists at Bloom Orthodontics, Dr. Thao Nguyen Vu continues the tradition of service and quality that have kept Long Beach families returning each generation. Dr. Vu incorporates modern orthodontics and state-of-the-art technology to ensure that every patient receives the most efficient and effective treatment possible.

Dr. Thao Nguyen Vu
knew she wanted to be an orthodontist from an early age. She had braces and experienced for herself the difference a beautiful smile can make on one’s self-esteem as an adolescent. With her newfound confidence, she took on leadership roles throughout high school, and later in college and dental school. Her positive experience as an orthodontic patient influenced her decision to become an orthodontist as an adult.
Dr. Vu dedicates herself to treating patients with the highest standard of care and providing the focused, unhurried attention they deserve. She loves helping children and adults have the beautiful smiles they always wanted, smiles that build their self-confidence and open doors professionally and socially.
Education and Continuing Education
Dr. Thao Nguyen Vu grew up in Garden Grove, California. There, she attended school from Kindergarten on and was valedictorian of her high school.
She went on to attend the University of California, Irvine on a Regent’s scholarship. She graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in biology and a minor in business management.
After college, she continued her studies at the prestigious dental program at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.
Dr. Vu then attended the graduate orthodontics program at the University of Southern California, where she received her certificate in orthodontics and a Master of Science degree in craniofacial biology. She was awarded the Harry L. Dougherty Award for Clinical Excellence upon graduation.
After graduation, she took a rigorous set of written and clinical examinations, as well as a comprehensive review of credentials, to become board-certified. She scored in the top five percent of examinees nationwide.
A few years after working in private practice, she was invited to teach in the orthodontic clinic at the USC Graduate Orthodontics department. Now teaching at the graduate department she graduated from, Dr. Vu is currently one of the youngest clinical faculty in the department.

Outside the Office
Growing up in southern California, Dr. Vu enjoys spending her time outside in the sun, from swimming and playing tennis to snowboarding and hiking. Also, Dr. Vu enjoys traveling, eating, and spending time with her family and friends.
